Battle City NES

What is Battle City NES?

Battle City NES is an old multi-directional shooter game that Namco developed and published in 1985 for Family Computer. It is a sequel to the 1980 game "Tank Battalion," while also acting as a forerunner to the 1991 "Tank Force" in the evolution of the video games. The game has also been ported to the arcade on the Nintendo VS. System and had a cameo in Japanese "Star Fox Assault." Battle City is one of the best experiences out there with the player taking control of a tank to eliminate enemy tanks and protect their base from all sorts of obstacles and challenges.

How to Play

The player, at Battle City, controls a tank to destroy all 20 enemy tanks in every level while defending their base, represented by a bird, eagle, or phoenix. The game ends if the player's base is destroyed or their lives run out. The player can move their tank in four directions, shoot at enemies, and collect power-ups to enhance their powers. Navigation through 35 stages involves obstacles such as destructible brick walls; indestructible steel walls; camouflage bushes; slippery ice fields, and impassable pools of water.

Tips & Tricks

  • Prioritize Base Defense: Always keep an eye on your base, and if it's destroyed, the game ends.
  • Use Power-Ups Wisely: Collect power-ups strategically, as some of them, like the bomb, will give you a quick advantage during the battle.
  • Watch for Enemy Patterns: Specific enemy tanks move in predictable ways. Learn their movement patterns to plan your moves accordingly.
  • Cooperative Mode: Try to communicate with your partner to cover each other's blind spots.
  • Edit Mode: Try creating your own levels, even if they can't be saved.
